OOM: Room #100 - drinking aftermath
[from here:]
With Doc carrying her, and Esfir holding the key, it's not so hard getting Kate to her room. She doesn't open her eyes or move, though she does continue to groan drunkenly, seemingly desperate to impart all of the important thoughts buzzing around her head.
Whether her two companions can make any sense of her mutterings, however, is another thing entirely.
The room is clean and organized. There's a chaise by the door where shoes can be removed and placed, and a desk to the right where they can set the room key. The chest of drawers in front of them has various clean clothes, including a few chemises and pajama sets.
Before anything else, however, a trip to the bathroom wouldn't go amiss.

"So, you think you can just be her friend? Not lover?"

Doc shakes his head.
"We've got a past. A history. We both care 'bout each other a great deal, and nothin' is gonna suddenly make that change and disappear. And even if we could wipe it clean and start over, I don't think s'fair to either of us. I know I've made mistakes, we both have. That's living."
He looks down at the table as he gathers his thoughts.
"It's hard to explain in words, but my life...it ain't worth it, unless I got somethin' to live for. She's a huge part of that, s'why I feel like somethin' is missin' when we're fightin' or I'm makin' a mess of things. I understand s'a lot of pressure to put on her, I just don't know how to change what my heart is sayin', that I need her...and to be quite frank with you, Esfir, I ain't certain that I want to."

"I am certain that I am getting pretty fucking sick of picking up the pieces, Doc."

You tell me, how is that anger going to do her any good when she's out robbing banks?"

He contemplates a moment.
"It depends on if she learns to focus it or not."

Beat.
"Both what you do, and what she does to herself."

There were (are) plans for a string of jobs out in Kate's world with professionals. Ben, Billy, Doc, and Bela, to show Kate the ropes.

A pause, as he considers.
"...or someone t'sit between us."

You can't say no to that face, Esfir.

"I'm the most unsympathetic person in the Bar."

"Fine."

Doc turns his attention back to the woman in bed, making sure she's still fast asleep.
He's quiet, for several long moments, before he speaks again.
"I would have given anything t'keep Sam from bein' killed," he murmurs. "For them to have made it 'cross the lake."

"You do have your good points."

There's not really much else to say.
His eyes wander to that book.
"What sort of language is that, anyway," he inquires.
