He can't forget the way Marian ran, caution thrown to the wind, to embrace the mare, can't forget the pride and love in her eyes as she stroked the white nose.

As the mare lips the little white cube from Kate's palm, Caspian leans back, crossing his arms to watch the two, careful to keep his coffee from sloshing, gray eyes thoughtful and a tad distant.

"I'm afraid Marian stayed behind in Nottingham," he says, after a moment. "She asked me to look after Lineave until she returns. You, too, naturally."
